Helping Communities Protect Drinking Water at Its Source
As a college student in my early twenties, I made a decision that drastically redirected the course of my professional life when I switched my major from Social Work to Geology. At first glance these two lines of study don’t appear to have anything in common. One is compassionate, advocacy-driven service through human connection. The other is, well, rocks.
I wasn’t sure why, but I was drawn to the inner workings of the earth and all its systems. From the microscopic world of chemistry to the macroscopic interactions of ecosystems and landscapes, I was fascinated by environmental science on every scale. But I was still plagued by the question, “how would understanding rocks give me an opportunity to help people?” Because throughout my life, I have had one driving principle regarding work: it must be meaningful. That’s when I began researching the global state of drinking water and quickly realized that access to safe, clean water is not something to be taken for granted. The more I learned, the more I recognized the extraordinary privilege of turning on a faucet and expecting clean water to flow without a second thought. What once felt ordinary began to feel remarkable. Clean water is foundational to health, dignity, and opportunity, and I discovered that safeguarding it offered exactly what I had been searching for: a meaningful way to help people.
I spent two years working as a public servant with Ohio EPA, but when I became a mom, my priorities shifted. In order to be with my child, I decided to leave my nine-to-five and come alongside Ohio communities from a different angle. That’s where Moore Source was born. I hope to use my background in mapping and hydrogeology to promote long-term protection of drinking water resources.
Meet Audrey
Audrey Moore is an environmental professional with experience in hydrogeology, source water protection, GIS, and environmental analysis. Audrey specializes in understanding the complex relationship between geology, water systems, and public health, with a passion for helping communities protect and sustain vital drinking water resources. Her work combines technical expertise with a broader mission-driven perspective, recognizing that access to clean water is foundational to healthy communities and quality of life. Throughout her career, Audrey has demonstrated a strong ability to translate scientific data into meaningful action while collaborating across disciplines to support environmental stewardship and public service.
Background
In her most recent work, Audrey expanded her expertise in drinking water source protection and hydrogeologic review, completing technical evaluations and assessments that directly support public water systems across Ohio. Her accomplishments include reviewing and approving 19 new well sites serving 16 drinking different public water systems, completing 35 Source Water Assessment Reports, conducting pump test and hydrogeologic site assessment reviews, and contributing to Source Water Protection Plan development efforts. Audrey has also pursued continued professional development through specialized technical trainings and industry conferences. Driven by a belief that one’s work should improve the lives of others, Audrey is passionate about helping communities safeguard the long-term health and security of their water resources.
Before entering the field of source water protection, Audrey developed a strong foundation in geospatial analysis and environmental data management through roles in both public and private sectors. As a GIS Analyst, she maintained geospatial infrastructure data and collaborated with teams to support engineering standards and operational priorities. In a previous role, Audrey conducted Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) inspections, collected and mapped over 2,500 water valves using GNSS technology, and supported the development of municipal geodatabases and infrastructure records.
Education
Audrey holds a B.S. in Geology from Cedarville University.
Community Involvement
Audrey has volunteered as a presenter at several water festivals, including the Dayton Children’s Water Festival and the Butler County Water Festival.
